Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Allegations Posted on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who likewise did not name the athlete by name, shared a series of photos on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones did say the person involved was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Unavailable

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have taken place.

Player's Prior Legal Issues

The receiver was absent for the initial part of this NFL campaign due to an NFL suspension for his role in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
